FAQs
Whatever brings you to start therapy, we’ll work together to understand the core of your concerns and identify what might best support your child. When you come to therapy, you bring your entire world with you. We’re here to learn about your journey so far, what matters most to you, and what you hope for, so we can focus on what you and your child need to thrive.
Pediatric occupational therapy can benefit children who:
- Struggle with fine motor skills like writing or buttoning clothes.
- Have sensory processing needs, such as being overly sensitive to certain textures or sounds.
- Experience challenges with coordination and motor planning, impacting activities like riding a bike or catching a ball.
- Need help developing daily living skills, such as dressing, eating, or hygiene.
- Have developmental delays or disabilities, including autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, or cerebral palsy.
- Support with emotional regulation and social interactions.
If a child has any of these issues or similar challenges, pediatric occupational therapy can provide targeted support.
Pediatric occupational therapy focuses on developing a range of skills to help children perform daily activities more effectively. Some key areas include:
- Fine Motor Skills: Improving tasks like writing, using utensils, and manipulating small objects.
- Gross Motor Skills: Enhancing abilities related to movement and coordination, such as jumping, running, and climbing.
- Sensory Processing: Helping children manage and respond to sensory input, such as textures, sounds, and lights.
- Daily Living Skills: Assisting with self-care tasks like dressing, bathing, eating, and grooming.
- Social Skills: Developing the ability to interact effectively with peers and adults, including turn-taking and communication.
- Cognitive Skills: Supporting problem-solving, attention, and memory to aid in learning and daily activities.
- Emotional Regulation: Helping children manage their feelings and reactions in various situations.
- Play Skills: Encouraging imaginative play and social play to support development and interaction with others.
Family involvement plays a vital role in making occupational therapy as effective as possible. That’s why we warmly welcome and encourage parents to join therapy sessions—it provides a chance to see your child’s strengths, understand their challenges, and learn ways to support them. We also offer parent consultations, helping ensure that skills practiced in therapy carry over seamlessly to everyday life. By reinforcing these skills at home, you help your child achieve steady, meaningful progress.
Your insights into your child’s routines, interests, and needs are invaluable to us, allowing us to tailor therapy to suit them best. Your involvement not only enhances their motivation but also helps them feel supported and encouraged throughout their journey. Together, we create an environment where your child can thrive.
